Stuck in a Rut

I have to admit, I am disappointed at what an awful blogger I've been lately here at For The Love of Teaching. Honestly I've just been busy with life. Sometimes I've felt like this:

Maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but let's get real for a minute. I've had a rough couple days at school (nothing major) and then hearing things are wonderful (ha) state department of education is thinking of doing as part of future teacher evaluations honestly made me leave school and ask myself (and my mom!), "Why am I doing this again?" What an awful feeling! I think sometimes it's easy to read blogs and think how perfect their classroom must be, how wonderful and supportive the parents are, etc, but it's just not always like that! Teachers get frustrated just like everyone else! I hate to be a debbie downer, but I think sometimes you just gotta embrace those moments, learn from them, and move on! My goal in my personal life this year is to get more organized. I think I am a pretty organized person by nature, but much could be improved. I've worked on organizing things at home like part of my garage, all of my son's clothes birth to 18 months, and a few other small projects. It feels good to get organized.

Now with my first Masters class starting tomorrow, I am feeling quite overwhelmed. On top of being wife, mommy, and teacher I am going back to student. Let me tell you...after reading what I have to do in Week 1, I am in panic mode. It's a LOT of work. So with this getting organized kick, I am making it my goal to get organized with my time as well and prepare better with my time. Wish me luck. Hopefully this week will be a much better week at school. Hey, it always is when you start your Monday planning period with a meeting, right? Well, I guess it's all part of it. Have a good week!

  1. I so know how you feel....2 weeks ago was my bad time...I actually had a student flip a bookcase in a rage....really bummer and lots of my parents are not supportive. I just do what I can with what I can and leave the rest in the Lord's hands. There's times it's a daily struggle but ya gotta hang in there and know the Lord will carry you through. I'm super frustrated with our dept. of ed. too....they are going to base our pay on kid performance....nice. You gotta focus on what's important and that's making a difference in kid's lives daily:) That's what is important. Good luck with your masters. Prayin for ya!

  2. Stay focused and positive...you'll be just fine. My class is doing their state writing assessment this week, AND I still have a few (4th grade) who don't know how to punctuate or capitalize - GRRRRR.

So if someone from the government, has any solutions for moving students reading and writing at 2nd grade level to 4th grade level in 6 months, they can have my job.

    Good Luck

  3. You are absolutely right. Teachers, by nature, are a generally positive group of people by nature. I think we gloss over the bad spots more often than not. It's important for us to share our fears and burdens with each other. Thank you for being brave and honest. I totally understand how you're feeling right now.

    1. Lana,
I can't tell you how good your post made me feel yesterday! Honestly, I know it's pathetic but misery loves company and I was starting to feel (after looking at everyone's freaking amazing blogs) discouraged, depressed ... bummed that my classroom was so UN-perfect, that I NEVER seem to have time for ANYTHING - especially blogging, and that my kids HAD to be worse than all the smiling ones I had been seeing in peoples pictures. So while you are correct, we have got to embrace it and move on ... THANK YOU for venting about it and making me feel normal/relieved/rejuvenated! *grin*
