A Peek at my Week

Today I am linking up with Mrs. Laffin's for her new linky, A Peek at my Week!

{One}

Monday night we have Open House at my son's daycare!  At Open House, we find out who his new teachers are and visit the classroom.  I'm looking forward to it!

{Two}

Here are some things we'll be doing in my 5th grade classroom!
  • We will be writing our first narrative about someone special in our life.  We'll be referring to our heart maps to get ideas of who to write about.
  • We will read Pink and Say to review the Civil War before moving to our first unit on Reconstruction.

  • We will begin a unit on forces and motion in Science!
  • We will begin our first unit in Math where students will learn about the order of operations and expressions.

I am determined to have better time management this week. Last week was the first week back to school and first time teaching 5th grade and I was a bit overwhelmed. This week I am going to do better with time management.  New grade, new standards, new Math text, new everything = frazzled teacher! ;)

And that is a good look at my upcoming week!  Today my goal is to finish laundry and get things ready at my house to make this week run even smoother!

  1. Yay! I'm so glad you linked up. Thank you!! ;v)

    Forces and motion is my favorite unit to teach in science. To teach potential and kinetic energy, we do an experiment where we try to get a BB to move through some clear tubing that we taped to the wall using hills and loops. The kids LOVE it!

    Have a great week! (I'm doing laundry today too...)

  2. Laundry is almost done here! I feel your pain on feeling overwhelmed. It's my daughter's first year teaching and she landed on my fifth grade team. I know, how cool is that? Anyway, while I thnk she's doing a fabulous job, she's more than a bit frazzled at times. As her mom, I hate seeing her that stressed. I think you're right, get that time management beast under control and it all gets easier. Hang in there and give yourself a little bit of slack!

  3. I never have plans past a "To Do List" for the first few weeks of school. You just never know what is going to happen, or how many times you will need to reinforce routines! Did I mention that this is my 25th year in the same grade? Don't feel too bad, relax:)

  4. I love the heart maps and did them my first year teaching grade 6. I had the kids refer to them often! They worked wonderfully! Congrats on your first time in grade five. This will be my second year in grade 6 after many years in primary....it's a big change, but like you, I'm hoping I've learned how to make it a bit better this year!

  5. This is my plan this week to Lana! Stay more focused and quicken the pace! How do you like looping so far? I love heart maps! We start with personal narrative too!
